Search Console shows how the website appears on Google Search: queries, pages, clicks, impressions and average position, by country and device. In Relator, this data appears in Performance › SEO, in dashboards and in reports.

Before you start

  • The site must be verified in Search Console, and your Google login must have access to it.
  • Any access level works. Relator shows your level next to each site: Owner, Full access or Restricted access.
  • Each site takes one source of your plan.

Step by step

  1. 1
    Step 1

    Open Connect new source

In Sources, click Connect new source. Search Console is in the SEO and local group, named Google Search Console.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Sign in with Google

Choose the login that has the site in Search Console and allow reading the data.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Choose the site

The Choose the Search Console site screen lists the sites. Domain properties show just the domain, without the technical prefix. Select the site and click Finalize.

    Step 4

    Understand the first load

The site appears on Data sources with the Syncing status. Because Google publishes search data 2 to 3 days late, the most recent days stay empty even after syncing.

In an agency

In the agency overview, the selection screen shows Choose Search Console sites with checkboxes. Check the sites that should sync and click Connect N sites. If you don't want any yet, the button becomes Skip for now. Then assign each site to its client in the Assigned to column.

What Relator asks Google for

Only the "View Search Console data for your verified sites" permission. It is read access: Relator doesn't submit sitemaps, remove URLs or change settings.

Common problems

  • The site doesn't appear. Your login has no access to the site in Search Console, or the site isn't verified. Fix it in Search Console and connect again.
  • "Today" and "Yesterday" disabled in the date picker. That is expected: see Why Search Console shows up late.
  • Clicks differ from GA4. They are different measures: Search Console counts clicks on search; GA4 counts sessions on the site.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a domain property and a URL prefix?

A domain property covers the whole site, with and without www and every subdomain. A URL prefix covers only that exact address. If you have both, connect the domain one to see everything.

Do I need to be the site owner?

No. Any access level in Search Console lets Relator read the data.

Does Search Console turn on the SEO audit?

No. The audit is separate and requires verifying the domain with a TXT record. See Turn on the SEO audit.
